Studying a teaching degree at the Philipps University in Marburg I am obliged to attend this class, however, in retrospect I must admit that I now really understand the value of this course. At first I was quite sceptial about this course because I didn't know exactly what it would entail. Would we be provided with some websites and have to explore how they might be useful for teaching? How would I manage to work with the new media tools provided? However, in the end I liked the clear structure of the course and the explanations provided. I think that I gained a broad overview about all the different and fascinating possibilities that the internet offers nowadays for teachers. Working with new tools and websites was a lot easier than I thought because we took it one step at a time and everything was explained really preciseley. I wasn't aware of the fact that as a future teacher it is imperative to firmly grasp the importance the role of the internet plays in modern day teaching. It makes teaching and learning so much more interesting and I think it well prepares students for the future demands of prospective employers.
I really enjoyed this class because it provided a collection of many different and useful links, for instance, how to create podcasts for your lesson. It is very useful to know some websites like lehrer-online.de because they provide you with loads of exciting material and lessons plans which you can apply without difficulty for your subjects. Further, I like the idea of sharing interesting links for teachers as you can do it easily with delicious.com with socialbookmarks. I feel like I learned a lot about structuring and organizing ideas, websites and links which I might have found on the internet. I never really thought about things like making sure that your student's data has to be encrypted, or that it is quite useful to have a second account on your computer just for your teaching materials, because then everything on your computer is well organized.
Getting to know all these different tools and websites I feel more prepared to create an interesting lesson and I feel inspired to explore even more what the internet has to offer for teachers. Therefore, I consider this class to be very helpful and necessary for every student who will become a teacher eventually.
